In 2010, British celebrity chef, Jamie Oliver, began a movement
in America called the Food Revolution. This year Food Revolution Day took place
on May 17. With this movement, Jamie teaches a “Better Food Better Life” to
millions of people. The foundation aims to change the way people eat by
educating every child about food and empowering families with cooking skills,
which fights against the epidemic of diet-related diseases.
With the kids about to get out of school, here are a few healthy
snacks that you can prepare for them this summer!
*{yogurt pops}*
These yogurt pops are a great alternative to the sugary
treats found in your local supermarket. Feel
free to mix things up and use different fruits along with the
bananas. They are perfect on a hot summer day as a treat or healthy dessert!
{serves 6}
ingredients:
2 small ripe bananas
6 ounces frozen strawberries or 1 cup frozen
blueberries
2 cups non-fat plain yogurt
2 tablespoons honey
directions:
- Peel and slice your banana and put
it into
a food processor or blender with the frozen
berries, yogurt and honey. Whiz it up on a
low setting until really
smooth.
-Divide the mixture between 6 paper cups
or plastic molds - you want about 4 ounces
- Place the pops in the freezer for 10
minutes, then gently poke a popsicle stick
into the center of each one.Place back in the
freezer for at least 3 hours, or until frozen
solid (this may work nicely with our Zoku!).
*{sloppy joes}*
Sloppy Joe is an American
classic and a kid-favorite! Now you can make it yourself and know exactly what
your kids are eating!

¾ pound lean ground beef or turkey
1 yellow onion, peeled and diced
1 green bell pepper, cored seeded and diced
¾ cup tomato purée
2 tablespoons cider vinegar
1½ tablespoons light brown sugar
1 tablespoon honey

for serving:
4 whole wheat hamburger buns or whole wheat wraps
1 cup shredded lettuce
directions:
- Put a large sauté
pan over a medium head
and crumble in the beef or turkey. Fry until
the meat
starts to brown then add the bell
pepper and onion. Continue cooking, stirring
occasionally, until the veggies start to

- When the veggies are
tender, add the tomato
purée and stir into the meat, then add the
vinegar, brown
sugar, honey, mustard and
chile powder to the pan and give everything
a really
good stir. Add the beans, season
with salt and pepper, then bring to a boil
and
cook until the sauce is nice and thick.
- To serve: pile the
Sloppy Joe mix onto the
bottom of a bun or middle of a wrap, top it
