sitting pretty...

I often get asked what style of sofa is my favorite. Although the sofa one chooses will depend on their personal style and space, I have to admit that I tend to favor the English roll arm. If you want a classic design that will stand the test of time and complement both traditional and modern spaces, the English roll arm should definitely be on your list of considerations. With no back cushions, and deep seat cushions, it is the perfect sofa for lounging and taking a nice long nap. Here are a few that may work for you...

a few quiet moments...

It may be summer, but it definitely hasn't been a slow one. Between work, spending time with the family, and everything else that pops up,  I feel like I have been constantly trying to play catch up. And as you may already know, I have been planning and preparing for my upcoming office renovations. So today, I thought that I would slow down a bit, relax on the sofa with a cup of coffee, and thumb through a few books to get inspired. I hope that you are able to find a few quiet moments to find your own inspiration today...

going dutch...

I love dutch doors! I have one. And you should too! Having a Dutch Door at your entry really makes a statement, adding a bit of personality and historic charm. By opening the top, you are letting fresh air and light in,  while keeping what you want in (pets, children, etc.) and keeping unwanted things out (leaves, critters, debris, etc.). And if you want to install an interior Dutch Door, it would serve as the most stylish baby gate ever! Think about it...

anyone for tennis?

Wimbledon may have come and gone, but I am still holding on. I may not be the best player, but I truly enjoy tennis! And even if you don't play, who doesn't love the style, history, and tradition of the sport? So here are a few great shots of Wimbledon throughout its history so that you too can hold on to one of the greatest sporting events of the year for little while longer...

monday {menu}

{recipe from...  h e r e}

Salt and Vinegar Broiled Fingerling Potatoes

  • 1 pound fingerling potatoes, sliced lengthwise to ¼-inch thickness (see note)
  • 2 cups distilled white vinegar
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Sea salt
  • Pepper

Instructions

  1. In a small pot, combine the potato slices and vinegar. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer until fork-tender, about 8 minutes. Let cool in liquid for 30 minutes. Then drain well and pat potatoes dry with paper towels.
  2. Preheat the broiler with a rack about 6 inches below the heat source. Dump the potato slices onto a sheet pan, sprinkle very generously with olive oil, salt and pepper, and toss to coat. Arrange the potato slices in a single layer. Broil until lightly browned on top, about 7 minutes. Then flip the slices and broil until the underside is lightly browned, about 5 minutes more. Serve warm.

friday finds...

via Completely Coastal

I recently came across this entryway and fell in love! The anchor is one of my favorite nautical motifs, and these hooks are a simple way to add them to your decor. I also love the herringbone patterned hardwood floors , shiplap paneled walls, and the contrast of the white and black iron. I hope that you love this space as much as I do! Happy weekend!

keep calm and polo on...

One of the things that I look forward to every summer are the polo matches! If you have a polo club in your area and haven't been to a match yet, you are missing out. Polo, "The Sport of Kings", makes for a fantastic time with friends and family! There is the tailgating, mingling, music, divot stomping, fashion, horses, and of course, the match! So grab your picnic basket, a bottle of your favorite champagne, and saddle up for an exciting day of polo!

pool house perfection...

It has been a bit warm lately (the understatement of the century), and I don't know about you, but getting into the pool is all that I have been thinking about! If you have a pool of your very own, consider yourself lucky. Its like being on vacation without even having to leave home! And although the pool itself is wonderful, lately, I've also been dreaming about the perfect pool house.

So I don't have a pool, and therefore no need for a pool house. Details... A girl can dream! But if I ever were to have one, I would want a cozy one that could serve several purposes (changing room, lounge area, a guest room, storage, office, etc.). I haven't worked out all the details yet, but I have some time...

as good as blue...

Blue is one of my favorite colors! The color blue represents the sky and sea. It is a calming color that expresses peace, tranquility, strength, and understanding. So bathe yourself in blue this holiday weekend, and take some time to relax and recharge...

the mudroom...

I am generally not a fan of clutter, but for some reason, I find it both comforting and functionally necessary in a proper mudroom. Its the one space where you are supposed to be able to leave all of your soggy boots, bags, coats, sporting equipment, etc. But just because the mudroom is a landing space for all of your everyday "stuff", that doesn't mean that it can't also be beautiful. Need proof? Here you go...
