rustic rooster {menu}

Easy Cinnamon

French Toast Sticks

Yield: 4 to 6 servings

Prep Time: 20 min

Cook Time: 10 min

Ingredients:

8 slices thick-cut Texas toast
4 large eggs
1 cup heavy cream
2 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 Tablespoon sugar
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
Unsalted butter, for cooking
Maple syrup, for serving

Directions:

Cut each slice of Texas toast into four sticks. Set aside.
In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla. Dip each piece of bread in the egg mixture, turning to coat it on all sides so that it's well-saturated with the custard.
Shake off any excess and place the coated bread on a large plate or baking dish. Repeat the dipping process with the remaining pieces of bread.
Heat a large sauté pan over medium heat and add 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter. Once the butter has melted, place several of the coated sticks in a single layer in the pan. (Do not overcrowd the pan.) Cook until golden brown on one side then flip and continue cooking until the sticks are golden brown and slightly crisped on all edges.
Serve immediately with maple syrup for dipping.
Notes:
Day-old bread that's slightly dried out works best for French toast since it will soak up the most custard.
Thick-cut bread with sturdy crusts is essential for this recipe, as the crusts help the sticks hold their shape. If you prefer regular French toast, skip slicing the Texas toast into sticks or use a crusty French baguette sliced into 1-inch-thick rounds.

loving the color blue

I love finding the perfect shorts... To the perfect monogram... To the perfect bathroom accessories... And to the perfect puppy! The color navy blue always grounds me... It's such a classic and strong color in my books.  Since summer is here I feel the blue connects to so many things... The cool splashing water to warm summer nights. What's your go to color this summer?

rustic rooster {menu}

ingredients:
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup butter (2 sticks), softened
2 cups plus 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
4 eggs
2 cups sugar
1/3 cup fresh squeezed Meyer lemon juice
1 heaping tablespoon grated lemon zest
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare a 9" X 13" baking pan by lining it with criss crossed pieces of aluminum foil that have an overhang of an inch or two. Spray with cooking spray unless using non-stick aluminum foil.
  2. Cream the powdered sugar and butter in a stand mixer until light and fluffy. Add 2 cups of the flour and beat on medium speed until mixed. Press into the bottom of the prepared baking pan and bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden.
  3. Beat the eggs, sugar, Meyer lemon juice and lemon zest in a large bowl either by hand or with a mixer. Sift the reserved 1/2 cup flour and baking powder into the mixture and mix well.

summer

Hi bloggers! Sorry for the radio silence. Its been a tough year for me... Don't worry I'm gonna tell you all later about it.  As some of you know, I'm the most real and honest person out there... So you will definitely get a mouth full!  I'm just not ready to tell my story yet! Plus, I think my situation will help a lot of people...

I've wanted to blog for the last week so bad, but my kids have been glued to me. Moms you know what I mean {wink}.  My creative juices are definitely starting to flow again and I want to share so much with you all... Interior Design, life, food, adventures, fun... Etc. Well, summer is  here and I love it! I found a summer nanny and signed the kids up for some fabulous camps. Cross your fingers it all goes well. I know I'll hit some hiccups along the way, but hey that's life.

So how's your summer going? Anything fun happening? We've been to the Fair already. OMG we had such a blast! Not gonna lie I only really go for the Cinnamon roll with cream cheese frosting... Too die for! A must try...

 {me pigging out}

OK, I do love seeing the smiles on my kids  faces each time they go on a ride, but the cinnamon roll really takes precedence  {hahah}.

I'm so thankful that I have a very close family and we all live so close to each other. So Taylor and Ryan get to spend almost every waking day with their cousins. They love it! These pictures above crack me up of the kids... So cute and funny! It's always an adventure when we get together... Non stop laughs! My cousin, Polly  and I kept laughing at the people. I feel mean saying that, but OMG it was hysterical to watch everyone. A definite life changer... Do's and don'ts on disciplining your children and do's and don'ts on what to wear. So when we left the fair we all had HUGE permanent smiles on our faces... Good Times! much needed for our hearts and souls!

Tell me what your plans are for the summer... Would love to hear all about!
