i will never forget

I will never forget her! She had a voice that was strong, captivating and oh so beautiful! As a child I would sit mesmerized listening to her read to me in the library at Campbell Hall. Years later during my college days I was working on the Cape at Chatham Bars Inn... Haven't seen her in ages. As I stood talking to a guest, I heard her... I turned very slowly. I knew that voice... I was flooded with every childhood memory possible. It was like an angel had entered the room... It WAS Mrs. Angell. I ran over to her like I was back in kindergarten. Threw my arms around her and gave her a big hug! Oh Mrs. Angell you are very missed! I know in heaven you're captivating everyone with your beautiful voice!  Mrs. Angell and her husband were returning home to Los Angeles from a wedding on the Cape on 9/11... When their plane was hijacked and crashed into the World Trade Center. We will always remember and honor you... Rest in peace! xoxo

To remember Lynn's legacy and the love of reading she brought to so many students, Campbell Hall dedicated the library's elementary reading area as "The Lynn and David Angell Children's Reading Room" in honor of this amazing couple. Every elementary student gets to spend time in this special room and continues to be inspired by stories told by our fantastic librarians.

mid-week inspiration (michael bastian)...

via Barrons

For years I have admired Michael Bastian's style, poring over photos of the designer's New York studio and apartment. They contain many of the things that I love; blue and white ticking stripes, ginger jars, antique rugs, natural curiosities... For those of you who are not yet familiar with these spaces, I hope that you enjoy them as much as I do!

monday {menu}

{RECIPE... h e r e}

Honey Walnut Fig Cheesecake Bars

For The Crust

  • 1/2 cup walnuts
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 6 tablespoons butter, melted

For The Honey Cheesecake

  • 10 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 fresh figs, sliced thin lengthwise (wait to slice until the very end)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F. Line a 9×9 pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a food processor, combine the walnuts, graham cracker crumbs, and sugar. Pulse until the mixture resembles a fine sand and the walnuts are completely pulverized. Pour in butter and pulse until it comes together. Press the crust firmly and evenly into the pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whip cream cheese and eggs until light and fluffy. Add in honey, vanilla, and salt, mixing until combined. Pour over prepared crust.
  4. Place the 9×9 pan in a water bath (you will need a larger pan filled with 1 inch of water) and place everything into the oven. Bake for 1 hour, then allow the cheesecake to cool completely (about 4 hours).
  5. Once cooled, arrange the fresh fig slices over the cheesecake. Use a sharp knife or scissors to cut the figs to fit around the perimeter.

getting comfortable...

via Follow the Yellow Brick Home

When it comes to creating a comfortable seating area, ottomans are amazing! They are so versatile, serving as  seating, a footstool, and coffee table. What's really great is that you can easily re-cover them by having them upholstered in a fabric that works with your space!

When using ottomans as a coffee table, I love to use large trays to hold everything from books, to flowers, candles, and drinks! Not only are trays useful for holding all of your lounging necessities, but they also create visual layers and beautiful vignettes that add to your rooms decor.

If you have been looking for the perfect tray to hold all of your favorite things, look no further, I've got the perfect tray for you!

turning your bath into a room...

The bathroom is such an important room in the house, yet it often does not get the attention that it deserves when it comes to decor. Rather than being a stark, cold space, the bathroom should be a space in which you want to spend time, take a long bubble bath, and relax in.

In order to create a welcoming space, add pieces to your bathroom that you would find in other rooms of your home. Add a chair or stool that you can throw your clothes on, or place next to the tub to hold towels or books. Add a table lamp or chandelier to add some warmth, creating a more cozy atmosphere. Use bowls and baskets to hold necessities such as makeup brushes, toothbrushes, toilet paper rolls, and soap. Take a look at these brilliant bath-rooms!
