autumn light...

The days are growing shorter, and the skies are often grey. Lately, I have found myself having to turn on a lamp or two during the day. Hey, that rhymes... Anyway, the point is that our use of indoor lighting will continue to increase as we move into winter. Personally, I am not a fan of overhead lighting, so I welcome the switching on of sources of light that create a warm glow and pleasant atmosphere.

There are many sources of light that will do the trick, from candles, to floor lamps, and sconces. However, today we will be looking at the table lamp. In addition to giving off quality light, it is also a wonderful decorative piece, providing both form and function. Here are a few that I am loving...

wandering wednesdays (crowley vintage)...

via Ivy Style

Meet shopkeeper, Sean Crowley... His passion for vintage clothing and antiques are evident in both his Brooklyn, New York shop, Crowley Vintage, as well as in his apartment. Having opened his shop in 2017 in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn, he has recently relocated to DUMBO.

Sean's knowledge of vintage clothing, along with his exceptional personal style, led to Crowley Vintage teaming up with Brooks Brothers earlier this year to curate a collection, "The Vintage Shop", made up of pieces inspired by the brands history.

If you are a fan of British and Ivy League style, and you happen to find yourself in the area, I would strongly suggest that you do yourself a favor and get styled at Crowley Vintage...

just do it (white after labor day)...

We have all heard the fashion rule that white should not be worn after Labor Day. Well, this rule was made to be broken! And, if you don't agree, you will after you see these fabulous looks! To make the look work for you, wear your whites in heavier, fall-friendly fabrics, like wool, denim, and cashmere. Trust me... Just do it!

take me there (marston house)...

via The Maryn

I recently came across Marston House in Vinalhaven, Maine on Elizabeth Hawtin's (@ehawtin) fabulous Instagram feed. It immediately went on my list of "musts" for my next trip East. The shop, which specializes in antiques, mostly from France, includes vintage textiles, baskets, ironstone, and silverware. The stylish couple who run Marston House also live on the premises. Their living space is what one dreams of when imagining life on the coast. Could there be a more perfect live/work setup than this? I think not...

put a bow on it (the bow handle)...

Leave it to interior designer, Beata Heuman, to present us with the lovely bow handle. Made in Italy, this antiqued brass handle would add such elegance to any piece lucky enough to have it. I love simple and traditional styles, and the bow handle is the perfect way to add a little something special...

peach puff pastry tart with prosciutto & brie

{recipe from... h e r e}

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Cut the peaches in half, take out the pit and then cut into 1/4 inch slices. Set aside.
  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  • Split the puff pastry in the box in half. Sprinkle a surface with a little flour and roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle approx 11 x 7 inches then take a sharp knife and cut the rectangle in half lengthwise. Pick up the pastry and place it on a parchment lined baking tray. Repeat with the second half of puff pastry. (trust me, you will want four of these). Using the knife, score the edges of the puff pastry about 1/2 an inch from the edge all the way around.
  • Cut the round of brie in half and then cut off all the wax around the edges (unless you like to eat that part). Cut the cheese into 1/4 inch thick slices. First lay the brie on the tart evenly spaced. Don't cover the whole pastry, leave some room in between slices.
  • Next lay the peach slices on the brie and follow with chunks of the prosciutto. Just tear the proscuitto slices up with you hands and place on the tart.  Drizzle 1 tbsp the honey on top of each tart and throw it in the oven for 12 mins or until the edges are nice and puffed and browned.
  • Remove the tart from the oven, drizzle with 1 more tbsp of honey and 1 tbsp of the balsamic reduction on each tart. Cut into pieces and serve right away.

the workout shed (and why you need one)...

via Sheds Unlimited

The holidays are almost here, and I have decided that this year I am going to be proactive. So I have decided to start working out regularly now, rather than wait until the New Year to agonize over all the weight I've gained over the holidays.

I actually don't mind going to the gym. However, with my busy schedule, I have decided that having a workout shed in my backyard may be the way to go. It's convenient, cost-effective, and makes for an inspiring environment in which to work out. I can hang inspirational images, play my favorite music, watch my favorite movies and TV shows, and whatever else it takes to make my workouts enjoyable! Here are a few finds  for a fabulous and functional home gym...
