shop local...

I know it's so exciting to go down to the mall and shop the big retail stores... Believe me I know. Yesterday, for the first time ever I did it with my kids. My daughter, Taylor begged me to go with her cousins... First off, I think I nearly had a panic attack... Way too many people were out and about, that I was overwhelmed and slightly annoyed. After seeing the lines for waiting rooms wrapped around stores, I started thinking... Really what am I doing? Why am I out and about trying to fight all of these crazy mad people just to save a buck or two.  Well, I do have to say it was an experience I will never forget. I know next black friday I will walk the streets in my local neighborhood and purchase from small stores. I feels so guilty because I am an owner of a small business. OK I'm human... But please stop and think about your local brick and mortar stores! Small businesses need your love and continuous support through the Christmas season. Take a moment today to walk the streets and shop small local businesses! Thank you {huge smile}!!!!!!

rustic rooster {the menu}

{Nutella S'mores Bars}

Yield: One 8x8 pan (16 squares)

Ingredients:1 and 1/4 cups flour
1 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
pinch of vanilla powder (or 1 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract)
1/2 cup Nutella
7 ounces marshmallow creme
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray an 8x8 glass baking dish with cooking spray, then line with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on opposite sides.
In a bowl, whisk together flour, graham cracker crumbs, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
In another bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat until creamy and well blended. Add dry ingredients and beat until just combined.
Press half of the dough evenly onto the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spoon marshmallow creme over the dough, then use the back of a greased spoon or a greased angled spatula to spread it out. Spread Nutella over marshmallow creme. Sprinkle chocolate chips over Nutella. Break apart chunks of the remaining graham cracker dough and scatter on top of the chocolate chips, like so.

Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely in pan, then lift out using overhanging edges of parchment paper and cut into bars.

fall loving...

As I sit at my desk this morning sipping my hot coffee and...  Listening to Michael Buble I can't help but gravitate towards these warm fall inspirations off of pinterest! The classics are popping out left and right to me!

A warm burnt orange jacket looks stunning and radiant on the streets day or evening... Buttery pumpkin pancakes send my mouth watering... Brass truly warms my soul... A house with black shutters can never go unnoticed in my eyes... A cashmere throw can only bring a smile to your face and a table setting with persimmons and magnolia leaves makes a beautiful statement for all to enjoy!

I know our Southern California weather has been so weird. One day cool, one day cloudy, one day rainy... And then bamn the next day hot and beautiful! A girl can definitely  dream all this fall goodness. What are your fall inspirations... Color? Cool? Calm? Neutral... The classics? What? Would love to hear!

i'm feeling this...

First off, I need to get a rag to clean up my drool... OMG I'm so in love with this house! For some odd reason this house screams peace, warmth and family! A definite craving for me right now. Is it the bricks, perfect landscaped garden or the whole entire package? What is it? What?!?! I wish I had all the answers... I feel like I could stay inside for hours and hours on end! Doing what I don't know and to be honest with you... I don't really care {wink}! I just want to be inside. Do you like this house? What's your attraction with this picture? What do you dislike about this picture? Tell all!

rustic rooster {the menu}

{rotisserie chicken pasta with pesto cream sauce}

3/4 cup fresh basil leaves, packed
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, divided
3 tablespoons pine nuts
2 cloves garlic, peeled
1/2 tsp kosher salt and coarsely ground pepper, each
1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons butter
12 oz fettuccine pasta

1. Bring 4 quarts of water to boil, then add 1 tablespoon kosher salt and 12 ounces pasta, and cook until al dente. Drain the pasta and set aside. Meanwhile, make the pesto.

2. To the work bowl of a food processor, add basil, 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, pine nuts, garlic cloves, and salt and pepper. Process while slowly drizzling in olive oil. Next add the cream and butter to a heavy-bottomed saucepan set over medium heat. Pour in the pesto, stir until well combined, and let simmer for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the heat, add the remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, and stir until melted and combined.

3. Add the drained pasta to the sauce and gently stir together. At this point you can either plate and top with hot rotisserie chicken, or if your chicken is already chopped and is cold from the fridge, go ahead and add it to the pasta and stir together for 2 minutes to heat up the chicken.
