boys bathroom {interior design}

I felt that a boys bathroom really wouldn't be complete with out some octopi, wall to wall paneling and dark stained cabinets... Oh My!  This bathroom that I designed is for two very active boys... Athletic and extremely physical  guys! So I needed to make everything sturdy and practical. For those parents of boys out there you can totally understand my clients request. I can sure relate! Spending a large amount of money on remodeling a bathroom can be scary especially when you have children that might destroy it because of their age. It happens... Nothing wrong with admitting that. We're all human! Some people think it, well I will say it for you! So when we sat down to figure out the design of the room... We came up with fool proof solutions. I think we achieved just that... Simple and clean lines. Not a lot of fluff. What ideas have you come up with to create the perfect sturdy bathroom for your boys? Please share... I love new and creative ideas!

holding on...

I know summer is coming to an end here in southern California. Plus,  school is around the corner for some of us. My kids start this Monday {omg}. Right now I feel the need to hang on to these items to the very last day... minute, second... If I can! I had an amazing summer with my family. So maybe that's the reason I don't want to let go of sandy beaches, colorful toes, summery sandals, stylish sunglasses to vibrant beach bags. Please don't go... Stay forever! I do have to say the positive about living in San Diego is that pretty much summer is almost all year round {smile}. Give or take a few months.  What are you keeping around to remind you of summer? Did you have a good summer? I wish I could beach it everyday... And feel the wind on my cheeks and sand run through my toes. Ahhhh A girl can still hold on to fabulous summertime memories! Who's with me... Lets hold on together!

back to school treats...

{PB and J Gooey Bars}

Ingredients
  • 1 yellow cake mix
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk (from a 14 ounce can)
  • 1/2 cup jam or jelly (I used seedless strawberry jam)
  • 3/4 cup white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line a 9x9” pan with foil and spray liberally with cooking spray.
  2. With a hand mixer or electric mixer, beat eggs, cake mix, and peanut butter until mixture is crumbly. Press about 2/3 of the mixture into prepared pan.
  3. Sprinkle white chocolate or peanut butter chips over the crust. Whisk together the sweetened condensed milk and jam in a measuring cup or small bowl. Pour over the chips and crust.
  4. Sprinkle the rest of the cake batter mixture evenly over the top of the bars. Press lightly to compact. Bake for 25-28 minutes, until top just starts to get golden brown. Cool completely before slicing into bars.

bathing beauty {interior design}

I believe bathrooms can be so personal to an individual. After completing this bathroom I started to realize... I think I secretly wanted this room for myself. Sorry people... Their is nothing wrong with wishing and wanting {wink}.  I was asked to make the bathroom very peaceful and classic for a young girl. Using honed carrara marble, crystal knobs, curvy mirrors, beaded inset detail on all the cabinetry and a delicate wallpaper I feel we achieved just that... Simplicity for some who's growing up! The light shines off of all the hardware so perfectly. I do feel that less is best in a space if you're trying to make your surroundings peaceful. I strive to help my clients get what they would like on each and every project. Just seeing the end result brings me so much joy... I do love what I do! This bathroom definitely turned out to be a bathing beauty!

wild combo...

One... Two... Three... Four... Are you feeling it? The flow is continuous and extremely contagious. I'd say the perfect combination. Call me crazy but, I've been loving pops of pink lately. Is it the color of passion? What about leopard print? The look of wildness!?!? Ahhhh the simplicity of a white house makes you wonder what's going on inside to a classic coastal blue bike that you look so innocent on... But you're  extremely wild. All of these pictures have hidden meanings... What do you think? I think I'm channeling my inner wild child! I say bring it on...

get your green on...

Don't you feel sometimes that you just need to be healthy?!?!? Well, I do! I start to analyze what I'm eating and what my kids are eating last week. I definitely shutter to think what I've put into my body. Yes, late night Taco Bell runs to omg I need lunch really fast lets get McDonald's. I'm the first to raise my hand and admit that I have and do that on occasions. Am I a junker? {chuckle} So I guess it's a good thing to go in and out of being good and healthy. These last few weeks of summer my cousin and I have been going to heated sculpt yoga. WOW... It's amazing! First off, I can't even touch my toes so don't think that's all you do in this class... You're  sweating like a pig {cleansing every ounce of bad out} and doing major cardio with intense sculpting combined. I love it... My body feels great! So with that type of exercise why not start eating right too... Bring on the greens!   Here's a salad that my mom used to make all he time when my brother and I were little. Hope you enjoy!

SERVES 4–6

INGREDIENTS FOR THE DRESSING:
1 clove garlic
Kosher salt, to taste
⅓ cup olive oil
2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
1 shallot, minced
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

FOR THE SALAD:
1 lb. small new potatoes, boiled until tender
6 oz. yellow baby beets, boiled until tender, peeled
6 oz. red baby beets, boiled until tender, peeled
8 oz. haricot verts, blanched
12 oz. cherry tomatoes, halved
½ cup black Niçoise olives
8 small radishes, trimmed and thinly sliced
8 salt-packed anchovies, rinsed and drained
4 hard-boiled eggs, halved lengthwise
3 (4-oz.) cans high-quality oil-packed tuna, drained
1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
½ cup loosely packed basil leaves, to garnish
¼ cup thinly sliced scallions, to garnish

INSTRUCTIONS 1. Make the dressing: Mince garlic on a cutting board and sprinkle heavily with salt; using a knife, scrape garlic and salt together to form a smooth paste. Transfer paste to a bowl and whisk in oil, juice, mustard, shallot, and salt and pepper; set aside. 2. Make the salad: Arrange all ingredients in separate rows on a large serving platter; drizzle dressing over all ingredients, season with salt and pepper, and garnish with basil and scallions just before serving.
