all you need is love

Ahhhh Elephant pancakes! This picture is so adorable! I would love to wake up to this on my breakfast table.  Seeing a picture like this makes me want to be a better mom. Trying to think outside the box & push myself to create more for them... I want them to have everything in life. I'm not talking about tangible ostentatious things I'm talking about lovable creative things... Like adventures. It's about the memories not the quantities of gifts. I'm realizing a lot of things right now. I was put on an insane/intensely strict budget challenge that has opened my eyes. Oh they're open right now. I'm not going to lie... I've wanted to buy like I've normally done, but now I'm re-prioritizing everything & getting very creative. So when I saw this picture it started to justify all the positive things I'm doing & changing in my life. I believe my kids should have anything & everything... But,  I can do all that in different ways. Through love & creativity.  They don't need the latest bling bling clothes... Because they don't even know what that bling bling label really is. My husband is making me think... he has reiterated this questions over & over again...  Do you need that or do you want that? Arghhhh He's so right! The truth hurts. lol This challenge is the best thing I've ever done. In the long run all I'll really need is my elephant pancakes & love! Try it... You'll like it too! {smile}

before & after: drama free

From the moment I walked into this home I knew a lot of work had to be done… I’m not saying the bones of this house were bad it just needed to be updated. Basically stripped of its old self & brought back to life. Everything was very staged & dramatic. Layer upon layer were peeled away during this process!

 {before}
My clients are very simple {& extremely FUN} people. They have 3 kids so simplicity is tattooed on their foreheads… No frills just get to the point because we have a soccer game in 10 minutes! My kind of family.

{mls - before}
After many conversations on the feel of the room we finally nailed it. By adding seagrass rugs to define the two spaces we knew we were headed in the right direction.
We couldn't part with the gorgeous pine hutch. No joke, I thought a time or two how could I steal it without them knowing I took it. You should see it in person... Absolutely stunning! This pieces just completes the room. I love a library look which is contained yet slightly messy.  I then designed a farm table that also wows you as you walk in the home. It's a casual table dressed up with classic wing backs & a chandelier.

The cool fabrics, soft lighting & fresh new wall paint add a sense of peace to the room. You want to sit down & read a book in silence. Something my clients have never done before... But, now is attempted. I have brought A's to all the kids’ report cards & smiling faces to mom &   dad. {chuckle} This has been a rustic rooster interior design success story! Hope you enjoyed my before & after...

apple picking

OK, I'm just going to say it... This was my first adventure to Julian, Ca! Oh my gosh it was amazing!  We did get very lucky... Last weekend was the last week of picking for the season. Thank God we got to do it... The kids loved it! I will never forget this outing. It was so peaceful {besides me getting carsick} & serene. Even though it was scorching hot, we didn't mind it at all. Life seemed so simple in Julian.  I've gotta admit It felt good to go slow & enjoy my family...

Now, if I only can  turn this bag of apples into this tonight warm apple pie!  I'll will be a superstar in my kids eyes! It's all about positive thinking!
Ingredients

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled), plus more for rolling

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature

1/4 cup packed light-brown sugar

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 recipe Our Favorite Pie Crust

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

4 pounds Granny Smith apples (8 to 10)

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup raisins

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

1.Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Make crumb topping: In a medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, butter, brown sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Work with fingers until large clumps form; freeze.

 2.On a lightly floured piece of wax paper or parchment paper, roll dough into a 14-inch circle. Carefully fit into a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate, gently lowering dough into bottom and sides of pie plate without stretching (you will have a 2-inch overhang all around). Refrigerate.

3.Place lemon juice in a large bowl. Peel, core, and slice apples 1/8 inch thick, transferring them to the bowl as you work. Add granulated sugar, raisins, cinnamon, remaining 1/4 cup flour, and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt; toss to combine. Transfer apple mixture to pie crust, pressing in firmly. Fold dough overhang over filling, pleating it as you work your way around pie; press dough firmly against filling.

4.Bake 45 minutes, then sprinkle apple filling with crumb topping. Continue to bake until golden and bubbling, 30 to 45 minutes more. Cool at least 6 hours before serving.

before & after: gut job

Designing a girls bathroom can be very tricky. You need to find the correct  ingredients... Not too mature, not too young & definitely not too girly. Especially since I'm dealing with blossoming young ladies. Hope that's OK to say... One just started driving & one is off to college. So they're definitely growing up...  I did both of the girls rooms a little while back, so they trusted me to run with this bathroom. My client always wanted to re-do this bathroom, but never really made it a priority. Then finally the unthinkable happened... A major water leak. If that's not going to get the ball rolling I don't know what else is.

Here are  the before pictures. Nothing has been altered or staged... {wink} The problem with this bathroom was lack of storage & of course it was out dated. After I hemmed & hawed over the direction I wanted to go with the bathroom... I came up with a plan centered around this floor tile.

Ta Dah... Here she is all done & pretty!

Everything was custom designed &  picked out just for this room... I wanted a more sophisticated look for the girls, since they're getting older. The sconces still kept a feminine feel with it's curved neck.  I love how this cabinet turned out. It's even better in person! It now offers the girls tons of storage to hide all their "stuff".  Of course at any age we can make a mess... So the best solution is a cabinet with doors & drawers & of course good old baskets. Who wants to see curling irons, hair dryers... etc.? I know I want my bathroom clean & super organized. You never know when you might have an  unexpected house guest. Close  the doors &  drawers &  your secret is hidden.
I enclosed the shower in with a pony wall to give the girls more privacy. Plus, I added a custom bookcase with adjustable shelves to store more goodies... It worked out perfectly! Before they used to just have a towel bar. I know less is best, but when it comes to storage take the plunge & add it.

Hope you all enjoyed my little before & after photos... See I'm getting better! {smile} Tomorrow I'm shooting the living room that I talked about {here}. Hope you all had a  fabulous day! Wow was it H.O.T. Of course I go home & make ribs in this heat. Way to go Alex! lol
